I have to make a speech at my graduation and I am feeling so overwhelmed about all the things I could talk about. Please help! If it were your graduation what would you want to hear about? What would keep people interested, but not too cliche for a grad speech?

I love you all and appreciate any and all suggestions. I like my school, but I love you guys and I feel like you will have amazing ideas for me!
Thanks in advance!

  1. My uncle ordered popovers
from the restaurant's bill of fare.
    And, when they were served,
    he regarded them
    with a penetrating stare
Then he spoke great Words of Wisdom
as he sat there on that chair:
    "To eat these things,"
    said my uncle,
    "you must exercise great care.
You may swallow down what's solid
    BUT
you must spit out the air!"

    And
as you partake of the world's bill of fare,
that's darned good advice to follow.
Do a lot of spitting out the hot air.
And be careful what you swallow.

this is a poem by dr. seuss, im incorporating it into my speech, its just such good advise for life

  2. I agree about using poetry. I just gave a speech at my senior banquet which is much more relaxed than graduation, so I also got to incorporate some humor that would not be acceptable at graduation...anyways humor is good.

The poem I used in my speech was one I heard at mountain school. Sam told me that it made Sarah cry and I had no idea why it would make someone cry. He told me to think about it and think I did for a long time. I see what so many of you saw now. The poem is "Wild Geese" by Mary Oliver.

All I mean to say is talk about what you believe in, talk about who you are. Really great speeches say something about who you are. This is hard, but a speech is a gift to the audience.

So, "whoever you are, no matter how lonely the world offers itself to your imagination." I'd be interested to see what you come up with. Good luck!!
